Tullahennel Wind Farm (37MW)

This project was over 15 years in development. Located south of Ballylongford in Co. Kerry the site showed good wind speeds, but had failed to secure grid capacity in earlier allocation rounds. The Gaothlinn team purchased the project in 2016 and successfully secured grid capacity, raised construction finance through GE and project managed the construction and commissioning of the site. The team also signed Ireland’s first REFIT based corporate PPA with Microsoft, allowing Microsoft to offset the carbon emissions of their operations in Ireland. The project itself comprises 13 GE wind turbines of 2.85MW, with civils works completed in challenging ground conditions by a civils contractor. The grid connection comprises 15km of 33kV underground cable and was constructed by O’Shea’s electrical. The Gaothlinn team was responsible for managing all procurement and construction contracts, liaising with local stakeholders and landowners and overall project optimisation.
